For decades, Whirlpool India operated with the backing of one of the world’s largest home-appliance companies. Today, that relationship is changing. Whirlpool Corporation, which once owned roughly 75% of Whirlpool India, reduced its holding to about 51% in February 2024 and later sold another roughly 11% in November 2025, bringing its stake down to around 40%. The transactions formed part of the US parent’s broader effort to simplify its portfolio and reduce debt. Questions about a complete exit intensified when Advent International was reported as a potential buyer for a large stake, although the proposed transaction ultimately did not materialise.
