Gujarat Energy Limited (GEL), formerly Gujarat Gas Limited, has undergone a fundamental transformation from a city gas distribution company into a broader integrated energy business. The company’s new structure took effect after the completion of a Composite Scheme of Amalgamation and Arrangement in 2026. Under the scheme, Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC), Gujarat State Petronet Limited (GSPL) and GSPC Energy were consolidated into the former Gujarat Gas business, while the gas transmission business was demerged into a separate entity, GSPL Transmission Limited (GTL). Gujarat Gas was subsequently renamed Gujarat Energy Limited, reflecting its expanded exposure across the energy value chain. The restructuring has positioned GEL across city gas distribution, gas trading, exploration and production, LNG and renewable energy, while separating gas transmission into GTL. The change is significant because GEL is no longer dependent solely on the economics of CNG and PNG; it now combines downstream distribution with trading and upstream energy assets.
